Gluten allergy symptoms include three different conditions
I often see symptoms of allergy to gluten word used to describe a Gluten Intolerance or wheat allergy. However, an intolerance to gluten and wheat allergy are two different diseases. The term gluten allergy is a misnomer. Let me explain what that term might encompass and what is not a useful way to describe the phenomenon of gluten.
Wheat Allergy Symptoms
Wheat allergy is an intolerance to gluten, this is due to a wheat allergy is a histamine more like a traditional allergy as hay fever or allergy to peanuts. When people suffer from an allergy to wheat, which are especially Allergic to wheat and gluten that exists in more than wheat. They are also likely to have a more immediate response to eating something with wheat in it.
Symptoms of wheat allergy can include an itchy or swollen tongue, itchy throat, sore throat, heartburn or indigestion, Hives or rashes, headaches and feeling kind of confused mind. There are more signs that this, but these are the symptoms that are more likely to occur immediately.
Gluten intolerance symptoms
On the other hand, a person with gluten intolerance may be able to eat a piece of wheat bread and not experience an immediate and obvious symptom. Gluten intolerance is an autoimmune disease, not a Food Allergy. When someone has this sensitivity to gluten, and any amount of gluten that he or she eats activate your immune system to attack the small intestine with certain antibodies.
However, this attack can be gradual. Do not misunderstand me here: this is a very serious condition and in time, these antibodies attack the lining of the small intestine (and microvilli), the patient will develop severe consequences. While the initial symptoms include gastrointestinal problems such as gas, bloating, cramps, diarrhea and constipation, many of the most severe symptoms of gluten allergy occur over time, such as diabetes, arthritis, ataxia, and even cancer.
Celiac Disease
Until recently, if you have an intolerance to gluten, which had celiac disease. However, researchers and clinicians now understand that you can test negative for celiac disease, but still have a significant sensitivity to gluten.
Celiac disease is basically a more severe form of gluten sensitivity, where doctors are able to verify the presence of specific genes associated with disease. Other than the context of diagnosis and greater severity of celiac disease is essentially the same thing as an intolerance to gluten. That is, there is a food allergy.
So you can see we have here three conditions, and none of them really are accurately represented by the term allergy to gluten.
