Is It Possible To Be Allergic To Omega 3 Fish Oil?
While fish oil allergy is rare there are a few people who might be allergic to Omega 3 fish oil. However, it is important to understand that most people who are allergic to it may also be allergic to seafood in general. This means that if you are allergic to seafood chances are that it may cause problems for you in which case it is always a good idea to consult with your Doctor prior to supplementing with it.
Symptoms of Fish Oil Allergy
One of the most common of symptoms of fish oil allergy is Hives. Hives are mainly a type of eruption or small bumps which may appear on your skin’s surface. The more severe the cause the more bumps you will see on your skin. The size of these hives can range from being as small as a pencil’s eraser to as large as a dinner plate. Several hives can also be joined together which gives it a larger appearance.
Generally hives are nothing to worry about and should disappear in 24 hours. They can cause mild to severe itching depending on the nature of your allergic reaction. In most cases these hives are not caused because you are allergic to Omega 3 but rather because you are allergic to seafood in general.
White Fish Allergy
While you may not be aware that you are allergic to seafood sometimes you may be allergic to a certain type of fish such as white fish. If this is the case you may trigger an allergic reaction if you take salmon it. However at most the allergic reaction should be mild and shouldn’t take you more than a day or two to recover from.
If you find out that white it does not agree with you, it is still possible to take regular its which is not extracted from white fish. Things can also be the other way round i.e. you are allergic to all fish except for white fish in which case you may be better off purchasing a slightly more expensive white it also known as salmon it.
Should you be concerned about fish oil allergy?
Fish oil allergy is real but it only affects a small portion of the world’s population. One in probably a hundred people may be allergic and so this is no reason not to supplement with it especially bearing in mind its wonderful benefits. If you are unsure about whether or not you should take it consults with your doctor. A doctor will usually run a few tests and get back to you with his recommendation.
Omega 3 fish oil is something everyone needs regardless of their age, gender and race. By not taking fish oil you are opening yourself to a whole host of illnesses. With doctors both holistic and conventional recommending that their patients take it the risks associated with taking it is minimal but with new benefits being discovered almost daily this is one supplement you do not want to miss out on.
